Five-star quarterback George MacIntyre committed to Tennessee football over Alabama and other top schools on Monday morning.

A Brentwood Academy standout, MacIntyre is one of the top players in the country in the 2025 recruiting cycle. The 6-foot-5, 182-pound signal caller ranks as a five-star recruit and the No. 15 player in the country according to the 247sports composite rankings.

MacIntyre ranks as the No. 2 quarterback in his class and the top player in the state of Tennessee in the 2025 cycle.

“High-upside quarterback prospect with a franchise-worthy frame, college-level arm and fluid pocket movements,” 247 Director of Scouting Andrew Ivens wrote about MacIntyre in September. “On the skinnier side, but is over 6-foot-5 and is likely going to fill out some more once he’s done with basketball. Possesses a cleaner stroke and can drive the football 50-plus yards. Shows touch on deep shots and will use trajectory to his advantage. Shouldn’t be viewed as a true dual-threat talent, but is elusive in the face of pressure and will slip/spin away from trouble.”

The blue-chip quarterback chose Tennessee over a top group which included Alabama, Clemson, LSU and Michigan. But in reality, MacIntyre’s recruitment came down to Tennessee and Alabama.

MacIntyre visited Alabama and Tennessee six times during his recruitment while taking four visits to LSU and no more than two visits to any other school besides local Vanderbilt— which didn’t crack his top 10.

Landing a five-star quarterback early in the 2025 recruiting cycle is massive for Tennessee, giving them an elite prospect at an important position that other top prospects will want to play with.

The Vols were trending to land the five-star quarterback in recent months but Nick Saban’s retirement made his final destination more evident. MacIntyre committed to Tennessee just under two weeks after Saban announced his retirement.

MacIntyre comes from a football family. His grandfather, George, was the head coach at Vanderbilt in the late 70s and early 80s while his uncle, Mike, is currently the head coach at FIU and was previously the head coach at Colorado.

The Nashville area native becomes Tennessee’s sixth commit in the 2025 recruiting class and its first five-star commit. The Vols’ six commit recruiting class now ranks No. 9 nationally according to the 247sports team rankings after landing MacIntyre.
