Odds for Brock, Purdy Good

Purdy so far this season has done his part in keeping San Francisco in a position to come out on top. Against Green Bay, Purdy threw for 252 yards, a touchdown and finished with a 59% completion percentage. When hosting Detroit, Purdy had a similar game with a slight uptick in passing yards with 267 and a 64% completion percentage while still throwing for one touchdown.

At the top of the list we have the most important player on this 49ers team. No big surprises that Purdy has the lead. It’s a massive leap from just a couple years ago when he was the last pick in the draft and the QB for Iowa State. Purdy had an unbelievable comeback win against the Lions, so if that game is any indication of what the QB is capable of, we could see Mr. Irrelevant change to Mr. MVP.

CMC Running Up MVP List

Christian McCaffery has been a spark plug for the 49ers. If you rewind the clocks back four years ago to San Fran’s last Super Bowl appearance, McCaffrey was still tearing up turf with Carolina and Raheem Mostert was the starting running back for the 49ers. McCaffrey had a 17-game streak of scoring at least one touchdown per game, and that alone shows just why he is No. 2 on this list. If the All-Pro back can rush for triple-digit yards and a couple of touchdowns, he could see his first Super Bowl MVP as well.

Rushing for 98 yards and two touchdowns against Green Bay and 90 yards with two touchdowns against the Lions are impressive performances from the RB this season. McCaffrey is the most consistent and reliable back in the NFL. CMC is No. 1 in rushing yards this season with 1,459. In addition he is tied for No. 2 in the league for carries at 272. If McCaffrey can replicate his two-touchdown performance and add a triple-digit rushing day into the equation, it will be undeniably tough to keep him out of the Super Bowl MVP conversation.

Deebo: No. 1 WR at No. 3 for MVP

Rounding out the top three candidates is Deebo Samuel. The most dynamic player on this 49ers team is listed at WR but can play RB at any moment. Head coach Kyle Shanahan will constantly put Samuel in motion pre-snap to confuse the defense. Not to mention, Purdy loves to hit Samuel in the flats for an effective ball screen.

The All-Pro WR this postseason has been effective when he takes the field. Samuel caught two passes that totaled 24 yards before being sidelined the rest of the game after suffering a shoulder injury in the Divisional Playoff win over Green Bay. The next week in the NFC Championship game, Samuel ran for seven yards on three attempts and caught eight passes for 89 yards. There is a “boom or bust” factor with Deebo so keep that in mind, and monitor his injury status if you’re looking to take his odds for Super Bowl MVP.
