Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel and a trio of Vol players met with the media on Monday as the Vols prepare for Week 3 of the college football season.
The Vols return to Knoxville with a win in Charlotte over No. 24 NC State, 51-10, as they start preparing for Saturday’s contest against Kent State.
The Golden Flashes are ranked dead last (No. 134) in ESPN’s FPI rankings, but Heupel is looking for his team to maintain their focus and their routine with how volatile college football can get at times. Just ask Notre Dame, who lost to Northern Illinois on Saturday.
“You can go back and look at the scores from across America each week and there’s examples of guys that didn’t prepare, didn’t practice right, didn’t have the right competitive spirit to go take advantage of the next opportunity,” Heupel said. “There’s a lot of work that goes into it. We started in mid-January. You better have the right mindset. There’s very few opportunities, this is our next one. Gotta be ready to go take advantage of it. Our players, our coaches this morning, were able to show them areas that we have to get better in and you know, that started today for us.”
In addition to Heupel, Tennessee also sent wide receiver Squirrel White, defensive lineman Bryson Eason, and tight end Holden Staes to the media stage. Eason gave a funny recap of his facemask somehow getting ripped off midway through a play on Saturday against the Wolfpack.
No. 7 Tennessee will host Kent State at 7:45 p.m. ET on Saturday night in Neyland Stadium.
