Tennessee’s recruiting saga with class of 2025 four-star defensive back Onis Konanbanny appears to have reached its conclusion.

According to a report from On3 Sports’ Hayes Fawcett on Tuesday afternoon, Konanbanny has flipped his commitment from Tennessee to Florida on the eve of National Signing Day.

Konanbanny originally committed to Tennessee on Aug. 23, 2024, but did keep open a line of communication with the Gators. Konanbanny took a visit to Gainesville for the Gators’ 24-17 win over Ole Miss in late November before returning to the Florida program just a few weeks ago.

Despite being committed to Tennessee on Early Signing Day in December, Konanbanny remained unsigned through the period as he kept his options open. As we now know, Konanbanny was contemplating taking his talents to Gainesville during the period of time between Early Signing Day and National Signing Day. He made the move official with a commitment on Tuesday.

247 Sports’ composite rankings have Konanbanny listed as the No. 360 player overall, the No. 35 cornerback in the class, and the No. 8 player from the state of South Carolina.

The Heathwood Hall Episcopal School product out of Columbia, S.C., is listed at 6-foot-1, 180 pounds on 247’s official service.

“Big-framed defensive back that has some of the tools required to shade the perimeter, but could also settle in as a safety at the next level,” 247’s Andrew Ivens wrote in an evaluation of Konanbanny in August. “Has a unique background as he was born in Europe and played soccer throughout his youth before making his way across the pond in 2022. Size has not been third-party verified, but in-person evaluations suggest that he’s over six feet and thick through the core. Displays explosive tendencies in the lower half while getting snaps on both defense and offense.”

With Konanbanny flipping to Florida, Tennessee’s 2025 recruiting class on the high school recruiting trail looks to be in the books. The Vols have brought in 23 enrollees so far while they wait on two more signees (Charles House, Joakim Dodson) to join the program down the road. Tennessee has also hauled in four players from the transfer portal to fortify its 2025 roster.

While Konanbanny does appear to be headed to Gainesville for his freshman season, we do live in a “never say never” type of college football world. Tennessee lost the recruiting battle for wide receiver Amari Jefferson in 2024 but he ended up transferring to Tennessee after just one season at Alabama. It doesn’t seem like the most likely option, but clearly it can happen.

247 Sports currently has Tennessee’s signing class ranked No. 11 in the country and No. 8 in the SEC, trailing No. 1 Texas, No. 3 Georgia, No. 4 Alabama, No. 6 Auburn, No. 7 LSU, No. 8 Texas A&M, and No. 10 Florida. The Gators jumped the Vols with the taking of Onis Konanbanny.

Tennessee signed four cornerbacks and one safety in the 2025 class: three-star CB Tyler Redmond, three-star CB Tre Poteat, three-star CB Timothy Merritt, three-star CB Dylan Lewis, and three-star S Sidney Walton.
