Super Bowl LIX prop betting guide: 8 popular, fun and wacky bets + expert picks for Chiefs vs Eagles

Few events live up to the Super Bowl.

That’s especially true when it comes to sports betting. From novice to sharp bettors, billions of dollars are wagered. In fact, Super Bowl LIX is projected to eclipse $1.5 billion in handle.

One of the most popular ways for fans to bet on the Super Bowl is proposition betting. This is also known as prop betting. A prop bet is a wager on someone to accomplish a specific thing or something to happen in an event or a game. For the sake of this guide, it’s Kansas City Chiefs vs Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl this Sunday.

This Super Bowl prop betting guide lays out 8 popular, fun and wacky bets you can make for Super Bowl 59 at the various sports betting apps in the US. As well as some added expert picks for Sunday’s big game.

Popular Super Bowl LIX prop bets for Chiefs vs Eagles

When it comes to prop betting and the NFL, the most popular are touchdowns. Whether anytime touchdown scorers or first touchdown scorers, bettors flock to this market.

And there are some good choices when it comes to the Chiefs and Eagles, especially for the Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts Super Bowl props.

Kansas City tight end Travis Kelce will no doubt be one of the most bet on Chiefs to score a TD on Sunday. DraftKings Sportsbook currently has Kelce at +140 as anytime TD scorer and +1,000 to be the first TD scorer.

Philadelphia is fun but also difficult because of the “Tush Push.” If the Eagles get the ball inside the 2-yard line, quarterback Jalen Hurts will get the TD. However, running back Saquon Barkley will be the most popular — and the odds back that up. Barkley is currently -195 for an anytime TD and +450 to be the first TD scorer. Hurts is -110 as anytime TD scorer and +650 to the best a first TD scorer.

Picks for TD scorers: Kelce anytime TD (+140), Hurts anytime TD (-110) and Barkley to score 2+ TDs (+285).

Other popular NFL prop bets are passing, receiving and rushing. With these prop bets, you’re predicting what a player will do (or won’t do) in the game. For example, Patrick Mahomes for a set amount of yards passing, rushing yards, touchdown passes, passing attempts and so on.

What you’ll discover about prop betting and the Super Bowl is that sportsbooks go big. They offer way more markets than they usually do given the popularity of the markets. FanDuel Sportsbook has a litany of prop markets, like player to record 1+ yard rushing yard, first player to 10+ rushing yards, any player to rush for 100+ yards and even which running back will a catch pass first.

The matchup that will determine Super Bowl LIX is the Eagles offensive line vs the KC offensive line. In the NFL postseason, Philly is No. 2 in rushing offense with 227.7 yards per game. The Chiefs defense is No. 7 against the run in the playoffs with 148 yards per game. If the Eagles come too close to that average, they’ll win the Super Bowl.

Picks for player props: Saquon Barkley 110+ yards rushing (-130 at FanDuel).

Fun Super Bowl LIX prop bets

This is where you can have, well, fun. And there are some fun options for the Super Bowl. Here are some of the best fun prop bets for Super Bowl LIX.

Final result to be a Scorigami (No -20,000; Yes +2,000 at bet365)

Bettors will find this prop at bet365 Sportsbook under the Futures tab. Note that you’ll have to scroll a bit on either desktop or mobile to find it.

A “Scorigami” is when the game results in a score that has never happened before. You can find this prop at bet365 Sportsbook under Super Bowl LIX Specials.

We’ve had seven unique NFL final game scores in the 2024 season, including one in the playoffs: The Houston Texans’ 32-12 AFC wild-card win over the Los Angeles Chargers.

For the record, the Chiefs’ 38-35 victory over the Eagles in Super Bowl 57 was not a Scorigami. It was the 24th (and most recent) NFL game with that point combination.

There have been three Scorigamis in the 58 previous Super Bowls. Interestingly, all three of those Super Bowl Scorigamis came in games lost by the Denver Broncos: 39-20 in 1987, 55-10 in 1990 and 43-8 in 2014.

Any offensive lineman to score a TD (+1,800 at FanDuel)

FanDuel has this prop under the Super Bowl Props tab on its sportsbook.

This has also been called a “Fat Guy Special.” But as the title indicates, it’s an offensive lineman to score a touchdown. This does not involve defensive lineman. So perhaps the most famous touchdown in Super Bowl history wouldn’t have cashed. The most recent offensive lineman to catch a touchdown in the NFL playoffs was Nate Solder in the 2015 AFC Championship Game.

Octopus to be scored by any player (Yes +1,400; No -5,000 at BetMGM)

You’ll find this prop at BetMGM Sportsbook under the Original bets tab.

Another popular and fun prop bet for bettors is the “Octopus” bet. This is when a player scores a receiving or rushing touchdown and immediately follows that up with a 2-point conversion. Hence the octopus.

The prop famously cashed in the fourth quarter of the Eagles vs Chiefs Super Bowl two years ago. Barkley also tallied an octopus this past September.

That was one of just nine NFL octopi this season, though, and there have only been 30 total in the 854 games (playoffs included) since the start of the 2022 season.

Wacky Super Bowl 59 prop bets

This is where sportsbooks jump the shark. And, yes, these are still fun, just a little wack-a-doo and not really about the game, per se.

Any kick attempt to hit the upright or crossbar (Yes +550; No -800 at Caesars Sportsbook)

Caesars Sportsbook has this prop under the Kicking tab.

For past Super Bowls, this has been called a “Doink Special.” But in a play on words from Rich Eisen at the NFL Network, kickers are people too in the world of sports betting.

The prop involves either Kansas City kicker Harrison Butker or Eagles kicker Jake Elliot hitting the upright or crossbar.

It definitely seems like we hear the “doink” on a regular basis. In fact, we heard it in the Wild Card round of this year’s playoffs when Washington Commanders kicker Zane Gonzalez hit the upright on his game-winning kick against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Flea flicker (No -330; Yes +250 at DraftKings)

DraftKings has this wacky prop under its “Novelty Props” tab.

Given how both of these teams tend lean on the wacky side of offensive play calls, this definitely fits the bill for Super Bowl Sunday. It’s not out of the question we see a Big Easy Flicker with how creative the Chiefs and Eagles offensive coaches are.

First team to use a coaches challenge (Chiefs -115; Eagles -115 at BetMGM)

Let’s end with a wacky bang. This prop at BetMGM is under the “Game Props” tab.

This prop has absolutely nothing to do with the game, so it adds a bit of wacky fun to the Super Bowl and betting on it.

Whatever you bet this Sunday, have fun but be smart. Bet with your head, not over it.
