More From RTI: Liam Doyle Dominates As Tennessee Baseball Run-Rules Hofstra In Season Opener
Liam Doyle was the story of the night. The Ole Miss transfer got the ball to start for Tennessee and shoved in five innings of work, allowing just one hit while striking out 11. Additionally, Doyle faced the minimum as the lone Hofstra player to tally a hit was thrown out at second.
The offense did its job, too. The Vols recorded 13 hits, three of which left the yard. Dean Curley, Andrew Fischer and Hunter High all homered, while Stone Lawless and Ariel Antigua also logged multiple RBIs.
Kennesaw State transfer RHP Tanner Franklin relieved Doyle of his duties to open the sixth inning. The former Owl allowed no hits or runs in his two innings of work, recording six outs to secure the run-rule victory.
The Vols are back at it on Saturday at 2 p.m. ET against Hofstra looking to clinch the series. Junior RHP Marcus Phillips will get the start on the mound.
