Lincoln Memorial transfer wing Elyjah Freeman committed to Auburn basketball over Tennessee and Indiana on Saturday evening. Freeman took visits to all three of his finalists including Tennessee earlier this week.

The 6-foot-8 wing was a breakout star at the local Division II school last season, averaging 19.3 points, 9.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game. Freeman shot 46% from three-point range in his freshman season but on an albeit small sample size, making just 24 triples over the course of the season.

An under the radar recruit, Freeman got off to a relatively slow start in his lone season at Lincoln Memorial. He averaged 22.1 points over the last 10 games of his season. Freeman totaled 12 double-doubles in 28 games during his freshman season.

Freeman ranks as a four-star transfer and the No. 122 player in the portal according to 247sports while On3 ranks him as a four-star transfer and the No. 76 player in the portal.

The Vols could be seeing a lot of the transfer wing in the upcoming years since he has at least three years of eligibility remaining and it might end up being four years if the NCAA passes a fifth year of eligibility for all players at some point in the coming years.

With Freeman headed to Auburn, the Vols’ pursuit of five-star prep prospect Nate Ament becomes all the more important. Both Freeman and Ament are versatile wings who are capable of playing power forward.

Maryland shooting guard Rodney Rice and Ament are Tennessee’s top two targets on the board. Rice visited Tennessee over the weekend and has also taken visits to Villanova and USC. Duke is seen as Tennessee’s top competition to land Ament.

The Vols need to add a wing and two more guards to their roster, including a starting quality shooting guard, and then have another roster spot that have available to use wherever they see fit.
