Indiana defensive line transfer Marcus Burris Jr is visiting Tennessee football starting on Friday, On3’s Pete Nakos first reported on Monday.
Burris is entering his redshirt senior season and has just one year of eligibility remaining. Tennessee football is looking to bolster its defensive line depth ahead of the 2025 season.
At 6-foot-5, 286-pounds, Burris is a bit of a tweener on the defensive line. He mostly played defensive tackle at Indiana last season but also has the ability to play as a strongside defensive end. The Vols have a bigger need at defensive tackle after losing Elijah Simmons, Omarr Norman-Lott and Omari Thomas to graduation.
Tennessee has more depth at defensive end with Dominic Bailey and Tyre West back while Tyree Weathersby is poised to take a bigger step forward in his third season. Still, Burris’ positional versatility would be a big plus.

Burris spent his first two collegiate seasons at Texas A&M before transferring to Indiana ahead of the 2023 season. He had a major role in each of his two seasons for the Hoosiers, combining to total 34 tackles and two sacks.
Burris earned a 60.5 PFF grade in 296 snaps in his redshirt junior season at Indiana, starting three games for the Hoosiers on their way to the College Football Playoffs. The Texarkana, Texas native had an even bigger role on a worse Indiana team in 2023, earning a 66.2 PFF grade in 437 total snaps.
For comparison sakes, Burris PFF grade last season would have been the fifth best amongst Tennessee defensive tackles, behind Elijah Simmons, Omarr Norman-Lott, Omari Thomas and Bryson Eason but ahead of Daevin Hobbs and Jaxson Moi.
Burris is a former four-star recruit, ranking as the No. 132 player in the 2021 recruiting cycle according to the 247sports composite rankings.
