Tennessee sent seven players to the NFL this past weekend, with four going through the draft and three signing undrafted free agent contracts.

The Vols had EDGE rusher James Pearce Jr. go to Atlanta in the first round, DT Omarr Norman-Lott was taken by Kansas City in the second round, WR Dont’e Thornton to Las Vegas by way of the fourth round, and RB Dylan Sampson was taken by Cleveland in the fourth round. Additionally, Tennessee safety Will Brooks signed with the Chiefs, DT Elijah Simmons signed with the Cardinals, and Omari Thomas signed with the Saints.

There’s one name that Tennessee fans were hoping to hear about over the weekend, though.

As of Monday morning, it does not appear that Tennessee wide receiver Bru McCoy has signed an UDFA contract anywhere in the league.

McCoy, a big-bodied receiver on the outside who played his last three seasons with the Vols, wasn’t projected to go in the NFL Draft, but there was always a hope that he would be able to sign after things wrapped up on Saturday evening. Hope is not gone, though, as McCoy could be signed anytime in the coming days, weeks, or months. Perhaps teams want to see what their rosters look like after the draft and free agency to decide what type of undrafted players they want to have at training camp.

McCoy transferred in from Southern Cal before the 2022 season and immediately made an impact. In an offense that featured Hendon Hooker, Jalin Hyatt, and Cedric Tillman, McCoy hauled in a career-high 667 yards and a career-high four receiving touchdowns. Expectations were high for the California native in his second season with the Vols, but things hit a roadblock when he suffered a season-ending ankle injury against South Carolina in the 2023 season. McCoy only played in four full games before getting hurt that season.

McCoy returned to Tennessee for his final season in 2024 and was productive, but didn’t quite hit the numbers he did with the terrific 2022 offense. The 6-foot-3 receiver hauled in 472 yards and two touchdowns in 12 games last season.

Tennessee fans on social media joined in the conversation on Saturday night and Sunday:

According to Draft Analyst Chad Reuter of NFL.com, McCoy was the eighth highest-ranked WR UDFA prospect following the draft, behind Nebraska’s Isaiah Neyor, Miami’s Xavier Restrepo, Arkansas’ Andrew Armstrong, Texas’ Isaiah Bond, EWU’s Efton Chism III, Memphis’ Roc Taylor, and NC Central’s Joaquin Davis.

Four of those players have signed an UDFA contract, including Neyor to the 49ers, Restrepo to the Titans, Taylor to the Steelers, and Davis to the Broncos.
