Former Tennessee safety Jakobe Thomas might see a familiar face or two at his next stop.
According to a report from 247Sports’ Chris Hummer on Monday evening, Thomas is set to visit with Miami and Florida State this week. The Seminoles would be a particularly interesting landing spot because of their activity in the portal before the spring.
Florida State landed two former Vols out of the portal in January with wide receiver Squirrel White and defensive lineman Jayson Jenkins. Neither player stayed in the portal for too long, as both had entered the portal and committed to Florida State within two weeks around Christmas and New Year’s.
If the Seminoles end up a player in Thomas’s recruitment out of the portal, perhaps White and Jenkins had something to do with it.

While no Tennessee player has switched over to Miami this season, the ACC has grabbed a couple of other Vols recently. Former Tennessee wide receiver Dayton Sneed is heading to North Carolina to team up with head coach Bill Belichick, while former Tennessee safety Christian Charles committed to Virginia on Monday.
On3’s Pete Nakos also reported the news on Monday, adding that Miami and FSU will be Thomas’s only two visits.
Thomas transferred from Middle Tennessee to Tennessee before the 2024 season and played in all 13 games for the Vols last year. As a rotational safety, Thomas tallied 22 tackles, 14 solo tackles, one sack, one fumble recovery, and two pass deflections. Thomas was also known for laying down a few big hits throughout the season.
Reports emerged late last week that Thomas was eyeing the portal, but it took until this Monday for him to officially enter. The former Vol doesn’t appear to be wasting much time looking for his new home as he reportedly visits with Florida State and Miami this week.
