Louisiana Tech transfer guard Amaree Abram committed to Tennessee basketball on Tuesday over a group that included James Madison, LSU and Minnesota. Abram committed to Rick Barnes and his staff on his visit to Knoxville on Monday and made it public a day later.
“I feel like on my visit they made it feel like home,” Abram told RTI of why he committed to Tennessee. “It’s a great opportunity for me. I’ve just got so much respect for Coach Barnes and the program and the direction I’m headed I feel like it’s good for me and my family.”
Abram is a shooting guard who played his junior season at Louisiana Tech where he averaged 12.3 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game. The Port Arthur, Texas native brings Tennessee the spacing they need at the two-guard spot after hitting 66 three-pointers last season at a 37% clip.
The 6-foot-4 combo guard was also one of the best perimeter defenders in Conference USA. In a three game stretch during conference play, Abram defended three of the conference’s best scorers and held them to 10 points per game on 27% shooting from the field.
The rising senior will have to compete but will have a good chance to end up being Tennessee’s starting shooting guard entering next season.

Tennessee had whiffed on a number of transfer shooting guard targets before landing a commitment from Abram. The Vols heavily pursued Virginia’s Isaac McKneely and Maryland’s Rodney Rice before they landed at Louisville and Southern Cal, respectively. Oklahoma’s Duke Miles also had a visit scheduled to Tennessee before committing to Texas A&M beforehand.
Abram marks the Vols’ third transfer commit of this offseason joining Maryland point guard Ja’Kobi Gillespie and Vanderbilt power forward Jaylen Carey. Tennessee currently has signed a four player prep signing class that includes five-star wing Nate Ament— the nation’s No. 2 player.
Tennessee currently has two scholarships to work with as they fill out its roster for the 2025-26 season. Shooting guard remains a position to watch.
