Tennessee landed a commitment from Louisiana Tech transfer Amaree Abram on Tuesday, giving Rick Barnes his third pick-up from the portal this offseason. The Vols have already signed Vanderbilt forward Jaylen Carey and Maryland point guard Ja’Kobi Gillespie in this cycle.
Abram will be with his fourth team in four seasons after joining the Volunteers’ roster. He previously played one season at Ole Miss, one season at Georgia Tech, and one season at Louisiana Tech. As a freshman with the Rebels, Abram showed promise while averaging 8.0 points per game while starting 22 of 33 games that season.
Abram’s most productive collegiate season came during his year at Louisiana Tech, where he averaged 12.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game for the Bulldogs. The 6-foot-4 guard from Port Arthur, Texas, started all 32 games last season for LA Tech.
Abram brings Tennessee a scoring threat with the ability to knock down shots from range. He is a career 35.9% three-point shooter and knocked down a career high 37.3% of his perimeter attempts last season with the Bulldogs.
