Rick Barnes added to his coaching staff on Friday morning, hiring Amorrow Morgan to replace Rod Clark after Clark left for a position at Indiana earlier this week.

A Memphis native, Morgan brings a reputation as a stout recruiter to Tennessee as he returns to his home state for the first time in his professional career.

“I am thrilled to welcome Amorrow to Rocky Top,” Barnes said in a statement. “As soon as we knew we had a decision to make, it was immediately clear Amorrow would be our first choice. He is a young, energetic coach with a sharp basketball mind who will make an impact with our program from day one. I know he will do all he can to help our players excel and that he will mesh with the strong culture we have in place.”

Morgan graduated from Cordova High School in Memphis and played a prep season in North Carolina before a four-year college career at Idaho State where he twice earned All-Big Sky honors.

During his coaching career, Morgan has had stops at Nicholls State, South Alabama, Loyola-Chicago and Cal. Morgan left Cal after two seasons for a spot on Luke Loucks inaugural staff at Florida State earlier this offseason. But the opportunity to join the Tennessee program was one Morgan couldn’t pass up.

“Coach Barnes has built something truly special on Rocky Top.” Morgan said in a statement. “Tennessee basketball is a program rooted in tradition and rising with purpose. I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to return to my home state and look forward to contributing however I can to the continued success of Volunteer basketball. I cannot wait to start and get to work with our guys. Go Big Orange.”

Morrow helped Cal sign the No. 8 transfer portal class in 2023 and No. 12 transfer class in 2024. Morgan was a key part of Cal adding Jaylon Tyson, a first round pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, and Jeremiah Wilkinson, a Georgia native who was the ACC Sixth Man of the Year a season ago. The assistant coach was also key in the Bears landing Andrej Stojakovic a year ago.

Tennessee basketball’s roster is nearly set for the 2025-26 season. The Vols have 12 scholarship players on their roster at this point. Tennessee currently has just one scholarship to work with at the moment. It could become three scholarships if the House Settlement passes.
