Tennessee head coach Tony Vitello was ejected in the fifth inning of game three of the Vols’ series finale against Auburn at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

Auburn’s Eric Guevara checked his swing on a 2-2 pitch with the bases loaded with first base umpire Richard Riley ruling that he didn’t swing. Krenzel walked Guevara on the ensuing pitch to extend Auburn’s lead to 6-0 in the fifth inning of the seven inning game.

Vitello made his way out of the dugout after the walk, first yelling at home plate umpire John Brammer before making the rounds and give all four umpires a piece of his mind. Third base umpire Javaerro January ended up tossing Vitello while Vitello yelled at Riley.

Sunday’s ejection marked the fifth time in Vitello’s head coaching career that an umpire ejected him from a game. It’s the first time that Vitello has been ejected since March 2023 at Missouri.

Tennessee’s eighth-year head coach and pitching coach Frank Anderson were displeased with Ben Levin’s strike zone in game one of the weekend series with Levin warning the Vols’ dugout.

Tennessee has lost three straight series and four of its last five series. It’s the first time in the Vitello’s tenure that Tennessee lost three series at Lindsey Nelson Stadium in a single season.
