Former Tennessee guard Chaz Lanier shot the lights out during NBA Combine workouts on Tuesday afternoon in Chicago.
Lanier, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard from North Florida and Tennessee, earned an invitation to the combine after showing off his shooting skills in SEC play with the Vols last year. On Tuesday, he had the chance to do it right in front of NBA scouts and executives.
According to ESPN’s Jonathan Givony, Lanier posted the second-highest shooting percentage at NBA Combine drills (aggregate of all shots) at 77%. The former Vol trailed only former Alabama guard Mark Sears, who led the way at 83%.
Still, though, Lanier’s mark was a good jump above the rest of the competition. The third-highest number came from Gonzaga guard Ryan Nembhard and Memphis guard PJ Haggerty at 73%.

Lanier also had some top-notch measurements to go along with his on-court shooting. According to Draft Express Director of Scouting Jon Chepkevich, Lanier posted 6’3 3/4″, 205.8 lbs with a 6’9″ wingspan and 8’5 1/2″ standing reach.
Lanier’s standout day has some fans on social media calling for him to move up to a late-round one pick, while others are adding his name to their list of hopefuls for their team to take.
Still not sold on how well Lanier did?
According to Nick Kalinowski on X, Lanier posted an NBA Combine score of 96.1 at the shooting guard position and 100.0 at the point guard position.
As Kalinowski said in his post, “whew.”

Jeff Borzello and ESPN tagged Lanier as one of five standout players from Tuesday’s workouts:
“He finished in the top five in all three 3-point shooting drills, and his touch and agility also caught the eyes of scouts,” Borzello wrote. “He had the fifth-fastest time in the pro lane agility drill, the third-highest no-step vertical leap and the fourth-highest max vertical leap.”
On-court drills and shooting workouts will continue on Wednesday. Stay tuned to Rocky Top Insider for more Chaz Lanier coverage as he looks to punch his ticket to the NBA.
