Tennessee’s run-rule loss followed back-to-back wins from the Vols in Hoover. UT dominated Alabama Wednesday 15-10 behind a 20-hit effort before outlasting Texas 7-5 in a 12-inning affair on Thursday.
The pair of wins put Tennessee in a much better situation to host an NCAA Regional than they were prior to the tournament. While it’s not a lock that Tennessee will be a Top-16 seed, the Vols have a strong case to play in Knoxville next weekend given the RPI ranking and number of Quad 1 wins.
Tennessee will learn its hosting fate on Monday. Tennessee was projected to host in the latest D1 Baseball Field of 64 Projections.
