Tennessee Baseball NCAA Tournament Matchup Against Miami (Ohio) In Weather Delay

Tennessee baseball’s NCAA Tournament opening matchup against Miami (Ohio) is in a weather delay due to both rain and lightning in the area. The current projected start time is not at 7:06 p.m. ET at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

The Vols and Redhawks were originally scheduled to begin play at 6 p.m. ET at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. The winner of the matchup advances to face three-seed Cincinnati in the winner’s bracket at 6 p.m. ET. on Saturday night. Whoever loses faces Wake Forest in an elimination game at noon ET on Saturday.

Tennessee is the No. 14 overall seed and a regional host after posting a 43-16 (16-14 SEC) record. The Vols entered the conference tournament on the wrong side of the hosting bubble after dropping two out of three games in their final five series to end the regular season.

But the Vols’ turned in a strong week at the SEC Tournament, knocking off Alabama 15-10 in their first game of the week and SEC Regular-Season Champion Texas 7-5 in extra innings in the quarterfinals. Tennessee’s run in Hoover came to a disappointing end in the semifinals with a 10-0 run-rule loss against rival Vanderbilt.

Miami (Ohio) is in the NCAA Tournament after winning both the MAC Regular-Season and Tournament Championship.

The Redhawks are the strength of its team and it’s an offense that can hit for contact and hit for power. Miami (Ohio) team batting average is .299, a mark that ranks 53rd nationally. Seven Miami starters are hitting over .300 making it a challenging lineup one through seven. They rank 12th nationally in walks.

ESPNU still plans to broadcast the game at this point. Mike Monaco and Kyle Peterson are on the call.
