Tennessee baseball has been in a lot of different NCAA Tournament scenarios during Tony Vitello’s eight seasons as head coach. They’ll face one for the first time Monday night— a game seven of a regional.
Game seven of the Knoxville Regional between Tennessee and Wake Forest is set for 6 p.m. ET on Monday night. ESPN2 is broadcasting the game as Mike Monaco and Kyle Peterson remain on the call.
Wake Forest has come all the way out of the loser’s bracket to force a game seven. The Demon Deacons dropped their regional opener 11-6 against Cincinnati and barely survived with a 14-13 win over Miami (Ohio) on Saturday.
But the Demon Deacons used a truly impressive Sunday run to keep their season alive. Wake Forest defeated Cincinnati 10-3 in its first game before walking off Tennessee 7-6 in the ninth inning.

Wake Forest led 6-2 in the fourth inning before two-run homers from Andrew Fischer and Levi Clark tied the game up entering the final innings. The Demon Deacons’ bullpen slowed down Tennessee’s offense before things snowballed on Nate Snead and the Vols in the ninth inning.
Wake Forest loaded the bases with a walk, single and bunt single before Snead walked Jack Winnay on four pitches to end the game.
It ended a 14-game winning streak for Tennessee in regional games. The Vols beat Miami (Ohio) and Cincinnati comfortably in their first two games of the regional. Tennessee is looking to advance to the super regionals for the fifth straight season.
The winner will likely travel to Fayetteville to face No. 3 overall Arkansas in a super regional with the chance to make the College World Series on the line.
