Former Tennessee infielder Alex Perry announced that he’s entering the transfer portal Tuesday morning ahead of his final two years of eligibility.
Perry stepped away from the Tennessee baseball program in January due to a “personal matter” but now “can’t wait to be back on the diamond” after his season away from the sport.
A versatile infielder, Perry was a backup middle infielder on the Vols’ 2024 national championship team. Perry was one of the top contenders to start for Tennessee at first base in 2025 before leaving the program in the preseason. Star Andrew Fischer worked at third base before Perry’s departure but the Ole Miss transfer eventually moved to first base.
Perry hit .286 with three RBIs in just 10 plate appearances during the 2024 season but was on the Vols’ active roster throughout the season and in Omaha. The Mississippi native had a strong fall practice for Tennessee baseball leading to the possibility of him starting for the 2025 Vols.

Before his two years at Tennessee, Perry played at Pearl River Community College in Mississippi. In his post announcing he’s entering the portal, Perry noted that he wants to play shortstop or third base in his final collegiate stop.
Perry is the 10th Tennessee player to enter the transfer portal to this point in the offseason joining LHP Dylan Loy, RHP Bryson Thacker, infielder Robinson Martin, RHP Austin Huntley, OF Colby Backus, LHP Brayden Sharp, RHP Thomas Crabtree, RHP Ryler Smart and 1B Jack Jones. Loy is the only outgoing transfer who had a sizable role for the Vols in 2025.
