Arkansas, the team that ended Tennessee’s tournament run earlier this month in the Fayetteville Super Regional, will not compete for the College World Series title this weekend.
The Razorbacks’ season ended in stunning fashion Wednesday night after Arkansas blew a ninth-inning lead to LSU. The Tigers now advance to the championship to face Coastal Carolina in a best-of-three series as the SEC looks to capture its sixth-straight CWS title.
The Tigers and the Razorbacks met up at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha on Wednesday night in a critical matchup. If Arkansas had won, it would’ve forced a decisive game three on Thursday between the two programs. If LSU won, it would eliminate Arkansas and send the Tigers to the championship series.
Arkansas took the first lead of the game, 1-0, in the fourth inning. LSU rallied to put up two runs to take the lead in the sixth inning. The Razorbacks regained the lead with two runs in the top of the eighth, but the Tigers fought back to tie things at 3-3 going into the ninth inning.
The magic looked to be with Arkansas’s bats as the Razorbacks put up two runs to take the lead in the top of the ninth. But that’s where the good vibes ended for the Hogs.
A misread and bad throw on a ground ball by the first baseman, a force out at third rather than a game-ending double play, and a line drive disaster in left field all led to LSU finding two runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the game with one out remaining.

The Tigers then walked off the game with a sharp liner off the second baseman’s glove to end the game with a 6-5 comeback victory to advance to the championship series.
