Four-star wing Gage Mayfield arrives at Tennessee Monday night for an official visit that lasts until Wednesday. It’s Mayfield’s first visit to Tennessee and his first official visit of the recruiting process.
Mayfield ranks as a four-star recruit and the No. 110 player in the country according to the 247sports composite rankings. The 6-foot-7, 190-pound wing ranks as the top prospect in the state of Alabama and the No. 29 small forward nationally in the 2026 recruiting cycle.
A standout at Hale County High School, Mayfield helped lead the Wildcats to an 18-7 record in his junior season. Since the end of his junior season Mayfield has begun turning head on the AAU circuit leading to Tennessee setting up a visit with the 6-foot-7, 190-pound wing. In just the last few months, Mayfield has earned offer from Auburn, Alabama, LSU, Maryland, Miami and Florida State.

Tennessee has yet to land a commitment in its 2026 recruiting class though that is little surprise given the early stages of the recruiting calendar. The Vols will sign a small high school recruiting class after adding five prep prospects in the 2025 cycle.
The 2025 Tennessee basketball team also has just three seniors on its roster though more roster spots will almost certainly be open with Nate Ament projecting as a one-and-done prospect and the emergence of the transfer portal.
Mayfield is the fourth high school prospect to visit Tennessee this summer. Four-star local forward Trey Thompson officially visited early in June while four-star shooting guard Junior County and three-star point guard Sam “Deuce” Simmons also took unofficial visits to Knoxville.
