Christian Moore is a bad, bad man.

The former Volunteer has been impressive through his first dozen games in MLB, seemingly getting better and more comfortable with each passing appearance.

All of that culminated in a historic performance on Tuesday night against the Red Sox as he closed the game with a walk-off home run in extra innings.

According to OptaSTATS on X, Moore is the first player in MLB history to do all three of these things in the same game:

  • Hit a game-tying home run (8th inning)
  • Hit a walk-off home run with his team trailing (10th inning)
  • Drive in all of his team’s runs

Let’s break it down.

Boston took the early 1-0 advantage in the game in the third inning with a sac-fly and held that lead for most of the game. But with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning, Moore stepped up and delivered a 387-foot solo shot to left field to tie things up at one each. That was Moore’s second career homer, but it wouldn’t stay like that for long.

Neither Boston nor Los Angeles could get a winning run before the end of the ninth, sending the game into extra innings. In the top of the 10th, Boston retook the lead with an RBI single to center field, putting the pressure back on the Angels.

But Christian Moore, the Angels’ top prospect who was called up earlier in the month, was due up for the Halos. With an automatic runner on second base due to MLB’s extra-innings rule, Moore delivered a magical moment. He took an 88 MPH slider out to right-center field, scoring the runner on second to tie the game and winding up with what was thought to be a triple in the moment. Unbeknownst to him, though, it was deemed that Moore’s ball crossed the yellow home run line, giving the former Tennessee champion his second home run of the game and his first career walk-off bomb.

Are you serious?! Not one, but two home runs, including the walk-off in extras? All three RBIs for the Halos? Have yourself a night, Christian Moore.

Moore’s teammates made sure the celebration was as good as the moment for the rookie from Tennessee:

Moore, the starting second baseman for L.A., finished the game with two hits in four plate appearances, two home runs, and three RBIs. His batting average jumped all the way up to .194 as he starts to find some rhythm at the plate through his first 12 games in Major League Baseball.

As Voice of Tennessee Baseball John Wilkerson pointed out on X, the game was extra special for Vols head coach Tony Vitello. While Moore got the start for the Angels, the Red Sox starter was former Vitello-era pitcher Garrett Crochet.

The left-handed pitcher was outstanding in his start in L.A. on Tuesday, giving up just three hits in seven innings pitched with 10 strikeouts, including two on Moore in his first two plate appearances.

What a night for Tony Vitello’s boys.
