Jordan Beck, also known as Mike Honcho, had his most complete game yet as an MLB hitter on Tuesday.

The former Tony Vitello Era Tennessee baseball outfielder went 5-for-5 at the plate for the Colorado Rockies. This included a roped double and a run scored. Beck entered the day without a four-hit or better game in his career. Getting all the way to five knocks made him the second player for the Rockies (Ezequiel Tovar) to do so this season, according to Guerilla Sports.

However, this wasn’t enough to push the Rockies over the Houston Astros, with Colorado dropping the game 6-5.

It was another recent Vol on the mound for the Rockies in Beck’s former college teammate, Chase Dollander. The right-handed hurler got the start, but didn’t have his best stuff. He allowed six runs on seven hits in just 2.2 innings of work.

For Beck, the impressive day at the plate pushed his batting average up to .274 on the year. In 74 games, he has 17 doubles, four triples and 10 home runs. This is good for 28 RBI and 40 runs scored.

This is his second year in the MLB after he made his debut a season ago. In 55 games during the 2024 campaign, he hit at a .188 average and drilled three home runs as he got his footing under him in the big league.

Beck played for Tennessee under Vitello from 2020-22. As a junior in 2022, he was a significant piece of one of the better teams in recent college baseball history. The Vols went 57-9 (25-5 SEC) to claim the SEC regular season and tournament titles. UT’s postseason run was cut short in the super regionals by Notre Dame, though.

Beck hit .298 as the team’s starting right fielder that year. In 66 starts, he posted 18 home runs, 61 RBI and 70 runs. This production helped place him on the ABCA/Rawlings Southeast All-Region Second-Team. He was ultimately selected by the Rockies with the No. 38 overall pick in the first round (Competitive Balance Round A) of the MLB draft

As a sophomore in 2021, he played in 67 and started in 66 games. He earned a .271 batting average with 15 home runs, 64 RBI and 42 runs. This team made a push all the way to the College World Series for the first time under Vitello after downing LSU at home in the super regionals.

His freshman year in 2020 was cut short due to the cancellation of the college baseball season. In 16 games and 10 starts, he hit at a .275 clip with one home run.
