Tennessee transfer pitcher Dylan Loy committed to Georgia Tech baseball Thursday night just over two weeks after entering the portal and leaving the Volunteer program.
Loy spent two seasons at Tennessee, combing to post a 3.22 ERA and 73 strikeouts in 64.1 innings pitched. The Pigeon Forge native was a fringe bullpen arm during the Vols run to the national championship in 2024. His best performance of his career came in the 2024 SEC Tournament Championship when he tossed 4.2 scoreless innings against LSU.
The left-handed pitcher had a bigger role in his sophomore season, posting a 3.97 ERA in 33 appearances and 34 innings pitched. After throwing 0.1 innings in SEC regular season play during his freshman season, Loy tossed 20 innings in SEC play as a sophomore.
Loy was one of Tennessee’s best pitchers for much of the 2025 season but had an up-and-down final six weeks of the regular season.
If the East Tennessee native had returned to Tennessee for his junior season then he would have competed for a weekend starting spot while certainly having a strong bullpen role. At Georgia Tech, Loy will have a clearer path to being a weekend starter in his final collegiate season before he’s draft eligible.
