Tennessee baseball officially announced the hire of Josh Reynolds as the program’s new pitching coach on Thursday afternoon. Reynolds replaces long time pitching coach Frank Anderson who left the Tennessee program for a role with the San Fransisco Giants.
Here’s what Josh Elander said in a statement about promoting Reynolds from Director of Pitching Performance to pitching coach:
“We’re excited to announce we have promoted Josh Reynolds to be our new pitching coach here at Tennessee,” Elander said in a statement. “Josh brings elite development skills, attention to detail and a proven ability to help players reach their highest potential. Our pitching staff is in the best of hands moving forward and we can’t wait to continue building upon the investment he has made in our student-athletes.”
Reynolds joined Tennessee’s staff following the 2024 season as the Director of Baseball Operations and Pitching Performance. He had already slid fully into the Director of Pitching Performance role this offseason with Adam Low fully taking over Director of Baseball Operations responsibilities.
Anderson had not been an active recruiter for Tennessee over the last few years and Reynolds helped in that regard over the last year following assistant coach Richard Jackson’s departure to the private sector.

Multiple Tennessee transfer portal pitching additions discussed Reynolds while talking about their recruitment.
Reynolds was the pitching coach at Cincinnati during the 2024 season before coming to Tennessee. He was also the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator at Northwestern from 2016-22. Reynolds was also an assistant coach at Kansas State from 2011-15 where he was a coach for Tennessee assistant coach Ross Kivett.
Anderson spent eight years on staff at Tennessee under Vitello. Elander offered his congratulations to the veteran pitching coach in his statement.
“I want to congratulate Frank Anderson on joining Coach Vitello’s staff in San Francisco. They are a perfect match and we wish them nothing but the best at the big-league level,” Elander said.
Tennessee has now lost two assistants to the Giants since the MLB franchise hired Vitello as its new manager. San Francisco hired Tennessee strength and conditioning coach Quentin Eberhardt as its new Director of Performance. Elander quickly hired Milwaukee Brewers assistant strength coach Keegan Knoll to replace Eberhardt.
