After just one season with Tennessee football, wide receiver Amari Jefferson is back in the transfer portal, according to a report from Hayes Fawcett. He will have four seasons of eligibility remaining due to a medical redshirt and a redshirt this season from not reaching the game quota.
Jefferson began his career at Alabama, but missed his true freshman year with a hip injury. The following season, Tennessee picked Jefferson up in the transfer portal.
However, even with a thin wide receiver room, he never cracked the rotation and was deep on the depth chart. He played in just two games on offense this season, logging a pair of snaps against both ETSU and UAB. He recorded no stats in that time.

More From RTI: Which Tennessee Football Players Will Enter The Transfer Portal When It Opens On Friday
Jefferson is from Chattanooga, Tennessee, where he played for Baylor School. He was considered a four-star prospect and top-200 recruit by 247 out of high school. He was also a star baseball player and top recruit. Jefferson committed to Tony Vitello’s UT baseball program at one point, before going the football route with the Crimson Tide.
This is now the 16th Tennessee player to announce their intention to enter the transfer portal once it opens up on Friday. He is the third wide receiver to depart, joining reserves Tommy Winton and Braylon Harmon, both former standouts at Knoxville Catholic.
The portal will officially open on Jan. 2, 2026. That’s when Tennessee’s outgoing players will be able to legally contact other teams as they look for their new homes. It’s also when the Vols can start to piece together their roster for next season.
