Tennessee football has landed four defensive backs through the transfer portal so far and may be looking to add more. Over the weekend, the Vols hosted Conrad Hussey, a transfer from Oregon State, his agent told RTI.
Hussey has a prior connection with a key piece of Tennessee’s coaching staff, as well. He was recruited by co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach Anthony Poindexter at Penn State. He was committed to the Nittany Lions up until signing day, when he flipped to Florida State.
That relationship with Poindexter didn’t waver despite the flip, though, and could be a factor in Hussey’s decision.

Hussey played the recent 2025 season at Oregon State. He appeared in just three games during his true junior season, posting five tackles, half a tackle for loss and a pass breakup. He should receive a redshirt for the season and have two years of eligibility remaining.
Hussey started his career at Florida State, but was dismissed from the team in August of 2025. CBS reported that it was due to a physical altercation with a position coach during practice.
Over the course of two seasons with FSU, Hussey recorded 40 tackles, one interception, three pass deflections, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in 24 games and four starts.
Hussey played both safety and nickelback for Oregon State in 2025. With Florida State, he spent the majority of his time at safety.
The Vols have landed Kansas State’s Qua Moss and Michigan’s TJ Metcalf already, who both also have split time between safety and nickelback in their career. Penn State’s Dejuan Lane is also in the boat, though he has spent his entire career as a safety. Tennessee still holds onto starting safety Edrees Farooq, as well, who is entering his junior year.
