Tennessee transfer target Aaron Scott Jr. will have some familiar faces around him when he visits the Vols’ program this weekend.

According to 247Sports’ Tom Loy, Scott will be in Knoxville on Friday and Saturday. The six-foot cornerback has spent the last two seasons with Ohio State, racking up nine total tackles during the 2025 season, and will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.

When Scott arrives in Knoxville, he’ll be greeted by defensive coordinator Jim Knowles, who was his defensive coordinator during his freshman season with the Buckeyes. Knowles spent three seasons as the Ohio State defensive coordinator from 2022 to 2024 before moving to the same position with Penn State in 2025. Scott played in seven games under Knowles’ direction during the 2024 season with the Buckeyes.

Additionally, he’ll see new Tennessee cornerbacks coach Michael Hunter Jr., who has spent the last two seasons working with the Buckeyes’ cornerbacks. Hunter’s previous position with Ohio State means that he worked directly with Scott during their two seasons in Columbus.

Familiarity has been a key recruiting tool for Tennessee in the portal so far this cycle. There’s no place where that’s more evident than with the haul of former Penn State players and coaches that Tennessee has brought in from Happy Valley, including defensive coordinator Jim Knowles, secondary coach Anthony Poindexter, EDGE rusher Chaz Coleman, defensive tackle Xavier Gilliam, linebacker Amare Campbell, and safety Dejuan Lane.

Perhaps Scott’s relationships with Knowles and Hunter help seal the deal for his addition to the Tennessee roster at some point. Scott is visiting Oregon on Thursday, but will be headed to Knoxville before the weekend.

As a prospect in the 2024 class, Scott was listed as a five-star recruit on 247Sports’ Composite Rankings. He was tagged as the No. 36 overall player in the class, the No. 6 cornerback in the cycle, and the top-ranked player from the state of Ohio. Scott played in seven games as a freshman, posting two tackles and a pass deflection. He then played in eight games as a sophomore, registering nine tackles and one tackle for loss. He was also a contributor on the Buckeyes’ special teams unit.

Tennessee appears set to return starting cornerback Ty Remond from the 2025 season, but the Vols have also added Auburn cornerback Kayin Lee through the transfer portal so far. Adding Scott to that room could help create some competition for the starting spots and would certainly add some quality depth.
