The Seattle Seahawks elevated former Tennessee wide receiver and current NFL running back Velus Jones Jr. from the practice squad on Saturday ahead of Sunday’s Super Bowl LX matchup against the New England Patriots. Running back Cam Akers was also elevated on Sunday as the Seahawks look to potentially bolster some depth in the running back room for Sunday’s game.

It is important to note that Saturday’s move doesn’t guarantee Jones Jr. a spot on the active roster for Super Bowl LX. Both Jones and Akers were elevated from the practice squad before the NFC Championship game against the Rams, but Jones was listed as inactive on the Sunday morning before the contest.

Seattle lost leading rusher Zach Charbonnet to a season-ending injury during the Seahawks’ win over the San Francisco 49ers in the divisional round. It’s no surprise to see Seattle work through their options leading into the game.

Jones began the season with the New Orleans Saints but was cut and picked up by the Seahawks in October. He appeared in three regular-season games for Seattle this season and played against the Niners in the Seahawks’ blowout playoff win a few weeks ago. On the season, he’s got 10 carries for 42 yards.

Jones Jr. will be one of two former Tennessee players in the game on Sunday. VFL Joshua Dobbs is the backup to New England starter Drake Maye. He’s seen action in four games, throwing for 65 yards on 7-of-10 passing throughout the season. He’s also racked up 10 rushing yards on four attempts. Dobbs’ services haven’t been called upon all too often this season, but the Broncos’ playoff quarterback situation and the injury to Bo Nix are a reminder that anyone’s number could be called at any moment.

The 2026 Super Bowl between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks will take place on Sunday, Feb. 8, at 6:30 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast by NBC.
