Since 2017, former Tennessee football running back Alvin Kamara has been a staple in the New Orleans Saints’ offense. That nearly decade-long era may be coming to a close, though.

On Monday, the Saints reached an agreement with running back Travis Etienne through free agency. With that addition, Adam Schefter reported that there are questions around the league about the status of Kamara. Teams are beginning to probe if he will become available via trade.

Kamara will be 31 years old when the upcoming NFL season begins. He is on the final year of his contract and will become an unrestricted free agent following the 2026 season. He carries a cap hit of $10,509,741, according to Spotrac.

Kamara played in a career-low 11 games this past season for the Saints. He totalled 471 rushing yards and one touchdown on 131 carries. He also added 186 receiving yards on 33 receptions.

In his career, Kamara is a five-time Pro Bowler, earning the nod in each season from 2017-21. He was also considered a Second-Team All-Pro in 2017 and 2020. During that terrific 2017 campaign, he was named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, as well.

Kamara played at Tennessee under Butch Jones from 2015-16. Despite criticism that he was underutilized with the Vols, he went 67th overall in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

Prior to his time at Tennessee, Kamara played the 2014 season at Hutchinson CC. He took a redshirt as a true freshman at Alabama in 2013 due to injury, but was ultimately banned from practicing with the team due to ‘behavioral issues’ before going to the junior college ranks.
