
Tennessee basketball guard Troy Henderson has been battling a left shoulder injury throughout SEC play. It has frequently kept him on the injury report and his availability has been inconsistent.
Meeting with the media Tuesday, Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes revealed that Henderson will undergo shoulder surgery this offseason.
“We know that he’s going to have to do offseason surgery,” Barnes said. “But again, Troy (said), ‘Hey, I want to stay and help as much as I can until the season is over.’”

Henderson played three minutes against Vanderbilt on Saturday, knocking down a three-pointer and recording an assist. But Henderson re-aggravated his shoulder and did not return to the game. His status is currently uncertain for this week’s SEC Tournament in Nashville.
“I don’t think Troy will practice today because of that stinger,” Barnes said. “He got hit again right where it stings. … I looked at the report this morning that said he wouldn’t be available today.”

Tennessee’s Tuesday practice is open to the media, Henderson did some work early in practice but has since shot on the Lady Vols’ court inside Pratt Pavilion.
The Richmond, Virginia native is averaging 7.5 minutes in 25 games played this season. Henderson is averaging two points, 1.2 assists and 0.5 rebounds per game. His best game in SEC play came in early January against Texas A&M when he hit two clutch late game three-pointers on his way to eight points and two steals.
Over the course of SEC play, Henderson scored 25 total points and finished seven-of-19 from three-point range.
Tennessee is banged up with the postseason nearing. Henderson, Amari Evans and Nate Ament are all banged up ahead of this week’s SEC Tournament in Nashville.
