No. 19 Tennessee baseball (14-4) is set to battle the No. 8 Georgia Bulldogs (15-4) Saturday in game two of a three-game series at Foley Field.

First pitch in Athens is at 5:00 p.m. ET on the SEC Network.

This is Tennessee’s first televised game of the season. Game three will stream on SEC Network + Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.

Tennessee enters Saturday’s contest coming off an incredibly impressive 7-4 series-opening victory Friday in Athens. The Vols’ offense was led by Manny Marin and Henry Ford who each tallied three RBI. Tegan Kuhns was very good for the vast majority of his outing before Brandon Arvidson was dominant in relief.

The Vols hit three home runs, with Stone Lawless joining Ford and Marin to hit all three crucial long balls late in the game.

The win puts Tennessee in the driver’s seat to clinch the SEC-opening series. The Vols have done well on Saturdays this season, losing just one Saturday contest, a 2-1 defeat to Kent State.

Landon Mack and Tennessee’s bullpen has been the highlight of the Vols’ Saturday performances, but if the offense continues to build momentum as it has in the past two outings, Tennessee won’t need to rely on its staff as heavily.

Tennessee’s offense hit rock bottom in a 6-0 game three loss to Wright State Sunday in Knoxville. The Vols tallied just six hits and seven baserunners, leaving more doubt than hope entering SEC play.

But doubters were proved wrong Friday, when Tennessee followed up Tuesday’s 20-run Tuesday effort in a midweek win over Tennessee Tech with a strong night at the plate against two standout Bulldog arms.

The Vols are now winners in seven of their past eight. UT will aim to clinch the series with a win Saturday. If Georgia evens the series, the two sides will face off in a Sunday series rubber match at Foley Field.

Georgia is in its third year under head coach Wes Johnson. The Bulldogs are 1-1 in SEC-opening series but Kentucky swept Georgia in Lexington two years ago.

This season, the Bulldogs’ elite offense has led the Dawgs to many dominant wins. Georgia has scored 10 or more runs in 13 contests and earned run-rule victories in 10.

The Bulldogs rank in the top five in batting average (.353), runs per game (11.4) and lead D1 in homers with 61.

Tennessee and Georgia have faced common opponents this year. Georgia bludgeoned Oakland in a 4-0 four-game series sweep and won two of three over Wright State including a run-rule series-opening victory.

The 15-4 Dawgs are without a doubt one of the top two toughest teams Tennessee have faced to date (UCLA), and by the numbers, the toughest offense.

Tennessee’s performance Friday was its most encouraging of the season. The Vols’ offense consistently threatened, led by Henry Ford and Manny Marin, who has been Tennessee’s biggest revelation at the plate in the past week.

Can Tennessee’s offense keep it going? It’s hard to say they won’t, but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a below-average performance given the number of times we’ve seen Tennessee’s bats fall flat.

But overall, Saturday is the day Tennessee has the best chance to win in any series. Landon Mack’s competitiveness backed by star freshman Cam Appenzeller and uber-reliable Brayden Krenzel out of the bullpen have me picking Tennessee in another low-scoring, thrilling Saturday affair.

Georgia wins Sunday to salvage the series.

Injury/Availability Notes
  • No injury notes. Garrett Wright is still working his way back to 100 percent from his hamate bone surgery, so it will be a bit before he catches.

Lineups, pitching matchup and additional pre-game notes are below, followed by the LIVE at-bat by at-bat game thread.

TENNESSEE STARTING NINE:

LF Garrett Wright (R)

DH Blaine Brown (L)

3B Henry Ford (R)

1B Blake Grimmer (L)

RF Reese Chapman (L)

C Stone Lawless (R)

2B Tyler Myatt (L)

SS Manny Marin (R)

CF Jay Abernathy (L)

Lineup Notes:
  • Same lineup as Friday. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
  • Tyler Myatt starts at second base for the third straight game, over Ariel Antigua and Chris Newstrom.
  • Wright continues to leadoff. Expect to see that going forward, with Jay in the nine-hole.
  • Lawless behind the plate again, Blake Grimmer at first.
    • Leaving no space for Levi Clark, who remains in an early-season slump. Clark will likely start Sunday.
  • Brown at 2-hole over Ford due to R, L, R at top of order.

GEORGIA STARTING NINE:

2B Ryan Black (L)

3B Tre Phelps (R)

C Daniel Jackson (R)

DH Michael O’Shaughnessy (L)

LF Henry Allen (R)

1B Brennan Hudson (L)

SS Kolby Branch (R)

RF Jack Arcamone (L)

CF Cole Johnson (L)

Pitching Matchup:

Vols So. RHP Landon Mack (3-1, 2.38 ERA, 4 app., 4 starts, 22.2 IP, 18 H, 7 R, 6 ER, 9 BB, 30 K, 5 XBH, .217 opp. batting avg., 1.19 WHIP)

vs.

Bulldogs Jr. RHP Dylan Vigue (3-1, 1.93 ERA, 4 app., 4 starts, 18.2 IP, 10 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 7 BB, 24 K, 3 XBH, .164 opp. batting avg., .91 WHIP)

Pitching notes:
  • Mack has been very good in his day two role.
    • Uncharacteristically struggled with command last week but gave up a season-best three hits. Mack has been know to run into some jams this season, but seemingly always works out of them.
  • Vigue, a Michigan transfer, has allowed opposing teams to do very little. 10 hits and 4 R allowed is great work in 18 innings.
    • But Vigue’s command hasn’t been the best, offering multiple walks in two of four starts.
    • Vigue is coming off a season-best outing, giving up one hit, no runs and struck out 11 to Queens.
    • 7.0 IP is an outlier for Vigue’s starts this year. He pitched 4.0 vs. Samford, 4.1 vs. Oakland and 3.1 against Wright State – the toughest team he’s faced – when he allowed two runs on two hits, two walks and his only HBP of the year.
Uniforms

Tennessee: Orange tops, grey pants

Georgia: Red tops, white pants, white hats

*NOTES*

  • Run-rule is MANDATORY in SEC play. If Tennessee or Georgia leads by 10 or more runs after the seventh inning, the game is over.
