No. 19 Tennessee baseball (14-5) is set to battle the No. 8 Georgia Bulldogs (16-4) Sunday in game three of a three-game series at Foley Field.

First pitch in Athens is at 1:00 p.m. ET on the SEC Network +.

Sunday serves as a series rubber match after Tennessee won game one 7-4 and lost game two 4-2.

The Vols used three late-game homers from Henry Ford, Manny Marin and Stone Lawless, along with an elite relief outing from Brandon Arvidson, to earn the incredibly impressive series-opening victory.

Saturday, the offense was not lifeless but could not deliver in key moments late, and Landon Mack’s early struggles put the Vols in a hole they could never climb out of. The Bulldogs never trailed in the narrow series-evening win.

GAME TWO RECAP: Tennessee Baseball Suffers Close Series-Evening Loss to Georgia in Game Two

Despite Saturday’s loss, Tennessee has continued to build momentum offensively in the past few games.

The Vols bounced back from a 6-0 series finale loss to Wright State last Sunday with a 20-run effort in a midweek win over Tennessee Tech.

Since, the Vols have scored nine runs in Athens, the same amount of runs they scored in the Wright State series.

UT has won seven of its past nine and will look to make a statement with an upset series win to open SEC play. The Vols return home next weekend to host lowly Missouri in what at the very least should be a 2-of-3 series win.

Georgia is in its third year under head coach Wes Johnson. The Bulldogs are 1-1 in SEC-opening series but Kentucky swept Georgia in Lexington two years ago.

This season, the Bulldogs’ elite offense has led the Dawgs to many dominant wins. Georgia has scored 10 or more runs in 13 contests and earned run-rule victories in 10.

The Bulldogs entered the weekend top five in batting average (.353), runs per game (11.4) and led D1 in homers with 61.

Tennessee and Georgia have faced common opponents this year. Georgia bludgeoned Oakland in a 4-0 four-game series sweep and won two of three over Wright State including a run-rule series-opening victory.

The 16-4 Dawgs are without a doubt one of the top two toughest teams Tennessee have faced to date (UCLA), and by the numbers, the toughest offense.

Prediction: Georgia wins by 2-4 runs

Sunday is the day I trust Tennessee the least.

Evan Blanco has been good and is experienced but his lack of command this season worries me, and Georgia may have success against his lower velo.

Throw in the fact that Ishikawa is on the mound, who by all accounts is an absolute stud though we’ve seen an incredibly small sample size, I think Tennessee competes but falls short in the rubber match.

If Tennessee does win, expect the offense to have a good day and Brayden Krenzel to be money once again out of the bullpen.

Injury/Availability Notes
  • No injury notes. Garrett Wright is still working his way back to 100 percent from his hamate bone surgery, so it will be a bit before he catches.

Lineups, pitching matchup and additional pre-game notes are below, followed by the LIVE at-bat by at-bat game thread.

TENNESSEE STARTING NINE:

LF Garrett Wright (R)

DH Blaine Brown (L)

3B Henry Ford (R)

1B Blake Grimmer (L)

RF Reese Chapman (L)

SS Manny Marin (R)

C Levi Clark (R)

2B Chris Newstrom (R)

CF Jay Abernathy (L)

Lineup Notes:
  • Levi Clark gets his first start of the weekend, catching as he’s done in all but one series finale this season.
  • Chris Newstrom also gets his first start of the weekend, starting at 2B over Tyler Myatt.
  • Clark and Myatt in for Stone Lawless and Tyler Myatt only personnel changes after UT used the same lineup Friday and Saturday.
  • Manny Marin moves up in the order as he’s been raking at the plate. Occupies the six-hole.

GEORGIA STARTING NINE:

2B Ryan Black (L)

3B Tre Phelps (R)

C Daniel Jackson (R)

DH Michael O’Shaughnessy (L)

LF Henry Allen (R)

1B Brennan Hudson (L)

RF Cole Koniarsky (R)

SS Kolby Branch (R)

CF Rylan Lujo (R)

Pitching Matchup:

Vols Sr. LHP Evan Blanco (1-2, 2.75 ERA, 4 app., 4 starts, 19.2 IP, 12 H, 7 R, 6 ER, 10 BB, 31 K, 4 HBP, 5 XBH, .174 opp. batting avg.,, 1.12 WHIP)

vs.

Bulldogs So. LHP Kenny Ishikawa (1-0, 0.00 ERA, 1 app., 1 start, 4.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 8 K, 0 XBH, .071 opp. batting avg., .69 WHIP)

Pitching notes:
  • Blanco continues to start in a day three role. Has had a solid season up to this point. Gives up very little hits but has struggled with his command from time to time (14 free passes).
    • Blanco’s stuff isn’t overwhelming. His fastball sits in the low 90s, leaving more intrigue to see how he fares against an uber-talented Georgia lineup.
    • Brayden Krenzel, Mark Hindy, Bo Rhudy, Brady Frederick all able to throw behind Blanco today.
  • First appearance for Ishikawa since February 14 as he’s been injured. Ishikawa was great in 4.1 innings of work against Wright State.
    • Ishikawa is a two-way star from Japan and was excellent last year at Seattle University both ways. A big league prospect, no doubt.
Uniforms

Tennessee: Orange tops, pinstripe pants

Georgia: All whites with black hats

*NOTES*
