Tennessee quarterback commit Derrick Baker was back on Rocky Top for a visit this week, according to 247Sports’ Tom Loy on Wednesday. The class of 2027 signal caller originally committed to Tennessee on Feb. 11 as one of the Vols’ first few commitments in the class.
Baker is a three-star prospect in his recruiting cycle, but don’t be surprised if his ranking begins to rise as the class matures and enters the spotlight. The 6-foot-1 quarterback out of Milton High School in Alpharetta, GA, has been a rising star in different offseason camps and tournaments and continues to put his name on the map.
Back in early March, Baker helped lead his 7-on-7 team to the 18U Division championship in ‘The Sevens’ tournament. He played for former Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton’s team in the event. Then, just a week later, Baker put together a strong performance in an Elite 11 workout in Atlanta.

They don’t build QBs like that. Not just anymore. Never.

Baker hasn’t posted any of his own pictures to social media from his trip to Knoxville yet, but his current Instagram story is a report of Tennessee’s latest Mic’d Up video with Joey Halzle, who will serve as Baker’s quarterback coach while on Rocky Top.
247Sports ranks Baker as the No. 43 quarterback in the class and the No. 85 player out of the state of Georgia. According to 247, Baker has another trip to Knoxville on the horizon with an official visit in June.
Aside from Tennessee, Baker also held offers from Auburn, Florida State, Indiana, Kentucky, Miami, Mississippi State, Ohio State, Ole Miss, and more.
Baker is one of five commitments in Tennessee’s 2027 recruiting class, alongside four-star offensive tackle Princeton Uwaifo, three-star defensive lineman Kadin Fife, three-star safety/athlete Jaden Butler, and three-star linebacker JP Peace.
