Tennessee football is heating up in the 2027 class, landing a commitment on Thursday. The Vols are also working to build relationships in the 2028 cycle as they prepare for the 2026 season. In this effort, UT has hosted a number of recruits during its spring slate of practices.

On Thursday, during a scrimmage inside Neyland Stadium, a recruit with a strong Tennessee connection made the trip to Rocky Top. Jazz Lewis, the son of Vols’ legendary running back Jamal Lewis, was in attendance.

While his father was a running back, Jazz Lewis currently plays wide receiver. He plays for Milton High School out of Alpharetta, Georgia. Notable teams to offer Jazz Lewis include Wake Forest, Memphis, Oregon State, UNLV and more.

Jamal Lewis played for Tennessee from 1997-1999, helping bring in the 1998 national title, though he missed most of the season with an injury. He was named the SEC Freshman of the Year in 1997 and named to the All-SEC Second-Team. In 1999, he also earned a spot on the All-SEC Second-Team.

After his college career, Jamal Lewis was picked fifth overall in the 2000 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens. He played there until 2006 and won a Super Bowl. His best year came in 2003, when he led the league in rushing yards, was named a First-Team All-Pro and PFWA NFL Most Valuable Player. He played for the Cleveland Browns from 2007-09 to round out his career.

Tennessee currently does not hold any commitments in the 2028 class. However, it is off to a strong start in the 2027 cycle. So far, UT has now landed five commitments in the class. The Vols boast four-star offensive lineman Princeton Uwaifo as the headliner, with four-star Kadin Fife also in the boat. However, Fife is apparently back in the evaluation process after defensive staff changes.

Three-stars quarterback Derrick Baker, legacy linebacker JP Peace and in-state athlete Jaden Butler are also committed. More commitments are expected to roll in throughout the offseason as the class heats up, though.
