Where Tennessee Basketball’s First Three Transfer Commits Land In Portal Rankings

Tennessee basketball landed its second commitment of the transfer portal cycle on Saturday afternoon when Cal combo guard Dai Dai Ames committed to the Vols over Xavier, Ole Miss and Kansas. Ames joins Belmont sharpshooter Tyler Lundblade as the Vols’ first two portal commitments.

Lundblade is coming off a standout season at Belmont, averaging 15.6 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game on his way to earning MVC Player of the Year honors. One of the top shooters in the country, Lundblade made 112 three-pointers at a 40.9% clip last season. He made the seventh most triples nationally last season.

The 6-foot-5 guard averaged 12.4 points per game but still made 100 three pointers at a 47.2% clip during the 2024-25 season. Lundblade can play both the two-spot and three-spot.

Ames is coming off a strong junior season at Cal where he averaged 16.9 points, 2.2 rebounds and two steals per game. The 6-foot-2 guard was an efficient scorer, shooting 46.4% from the field, 37.6% from three-point range and 85% from the foul line.

The Chicago native’s play was strong enough to earn Third Team All-ACC honors during his junior season. While recruiting sites rank him as a point guard, Tennessee views him as a true combo guard who will split time on-and-off the ball.

Rubin is coming off a strong junior season where he averaged 11.3 points, 7.1 rebounds, 2.3 blocks and 2.3 assists per game.

The 6-foot-10 center is a high-level rim protector, ranking 12th nationally last season by blocking 76 shots. Rubin blocked 85 shots as a sophomore and, again, 76 shots as a true freshman.

The Vols’ first two additions of the cycle give Tennessee two high level shooters who can help space the court. Lundblade is a pure sharpshooter while Ames is more of a creator with a great midrange jumper and a good three-point shot. Rubin brings rim protection that Tennessee needs with Felix Okpara out of eligibility.
