In just over a month, we’ll have a bracket for this season’s NCAA Baseball Tournament. Tennessee finds itself on the bubble for the first time in a number of years this season. Where do they stand in the latest field of 64 projections?
Both D1Baseball and Baseball America have Tennessee in the field as a three-seed in various regionals. While a three-seed is a low, the Vols are not in the last four out in either projection so they have a bit of wiggle room at the moment.
D1Baseball pegs Tennessee as a three-seed in the Conway Regional. Coastal Carolina is projected to be the No. 7 overall seed in the latest projections while Wake Forest is the two-seed and the No. 28 overall seed. Wofford projects as the four-seed in the Conway Regional.
Baseball America has Tennessee as a three-seed in the Tallahassee Regional. Florida State is projected as the No. 11 overall seed in the latest projections while Missouri State is a two-seed and the No. 22 overall seed. North Florida projects as a four-seed in the Tallahassee Regional.
More From From RTI: Tennessee Baseball Monitoring Weather Before Deciding Rotation For Alabama Series
Tennessee enters this weekend’s series against Alabama with a 27-14 (8-10 SEC) record. The Vols currently rank 34th in RPI.
Josh Elander’s first Tennessee team dropped a non conference series against Kent State while also earning non conference wins over Arizona State and Virginia Tech.
In SEC play, Tennessee has a series victory over Missouri and swept Mississippi State on the road. Vanderbilt swept Tennessee in Nashville while the Vols dropped two out of three games against both LSU and Ole Miss in Knoxville. Tennessee has home series against Alabama and Texas as well as road series against Kentucky and Oklahoma remaining.
Historically, 13 SEC wins is good enough for a team to make the NCAA Tournament. Fourteen wins all but guarantees a NCAA Tournament birth. With eight wins through its first six SEC series, Tennessee is looking to add at least five wins in its final four series.
