Titans Invite Former Tennessee Defensive Back To Rookie Minicamp

The Tennessee Titans have extended a rookie minicamp invite to defensive back Key Lawrence, Justin Mello first reported on Tuesday. Lawrence is a Nashville native who played began his collegiate career at Tennessee before eventually playing at four different schools.

A top 100 recruit coming out of the Ensworth School in Nashville, Lawrence signed with Jeremy Pruitt and Tennessee football. Lawrence’s role was minimal as a freshman in the COVID-19 shortened season but he showed promise while totaling eight tackles and a pass breakup.

Lawrence entered the transfer portal following the 2020 season when Tennessee fired Pruitt in the midst of an investigation into recruiting violations.

The Nashville native spent three years at Oklahoma where he built a consistent role. Lawrence record 44-plus tackles all three years he spent in Norman while totaling 148 tackles, 10 pass deflections, one sack, six forced fumbles and three interceptions.

Lawrence re-entered the transfer portal ahead of the 2024 season and landed with Lane Kiffin at Ole Miss. However, Lawrence played in just one game and totaled only one tackle during his time in Oxford.

The 6-foot-1, 200-pound defensive back had one final year of eligibility after redshirting in his lone season at Ole Miss. Lawrence landed with Nico Iamaleava at UCLA where he totaled a career-best 70 tackles, two forced fumbles and one interception.

Over the course of his six-year collegiate career, Lawrence totaled 227 tackles, 12 pass deflections, eight forced fumbles and four interceptions.

Lawrence now returns to his hometown for rookie minicamp, hoping to perform well enough to earn a training camp invite and eventually a spot on the Titans’ 53-man roster. Tennessee is entering its first season under new head coach Robert Saleh after consecutive 3-14 seasons under Brian Callahan.
