Jason Williams was perhaps the first star of the Billy Donovan era at Florida, averaging 17.1 points, 6.7 assists and 2.7 steals per game in his lone season with the Gators before moving on to the NBA.
But nearly 20 years after leaving the Florida program, Williams is severing ties with the Gators over repeated incidents on the softball diamond over the weekend.
“You were a Gator legend,” Barstool Sports’ Dan Katz said while interviewing Williams.
“Was,” Williams said quickly interrupting Katz. “Was. The only time I’ll ever step foot on Gainesville’s campus again is if my daughter plays softball there again.”
Williams’ new found disdain for Florida comes from this weekend’s Gainesville Super Regional in the NCAA softball tournament. Mia Williams, Jason’s daughter, played the first two years of her career at Florida before transferring to Texas Tech last offseason.
The second baseman returned to her old school last weekend with a birth in the Women’s College World Series on the line. Incredible amounts of drama ensued.
Williams had been hit by four pitches all season entering the super regional. Florida proceeded to hit Williams five times in the three games series. When the Gators’ didn’t beam Williams, the junior made them pay.
In game one of the series, Williams lifted Texas Tech to a 10-8 win when she hit a go-ahead, two-run homer in the seventh inning. Florida won game two to force a winner-take-all game three. Williams came through again, hitting a two-run homer in the second inning as Texas Tech earned a 16-7 victory to end Florida’s season.

The game three victory included plenty of fireworks. Florida coach Tim Walton was ejected from the game while the Gators’ team refused to shake hands with Texas Tech after the game. Jason Williams also mockingly gator chomped and later celebrated on the field with the Texas Tech team.

Mia Williams finished the weekend three-for-seven at the plate with five RBIs, three extra-base hits, a walk and the five hit-by pitches. On the season, Williams is slashing .435/.517/.927 with 24 home runs, 22 doubles and 82 RBIs.
Mia is the oldest of Jason’s daughters and it’s safe to say the former Florida star does not want his younger daughter to go to Florida.
“Whatever NIL money she got from the University of Florida, I would ask you to help me double that so she could stay away,” Williams said.
Texas Tech opens up play at the Women’s College World Series on Thursday when they face Mississippi State. The Red Raiders are on the same side of the bracket as Tennessee.

Hey Jason…gators don’t need u to support them anymore- Goodbye
there were actions by the Gator players and coach that were disgraceful , things that hurt a program. However, losing the Williams family forever is nothing but a sigh of relief.
No one at Florida will miss the immature legend who was kicked off the team for repeated drug violations and lack of team play. The Wife who endlessly critisized the team and coach last year on social media. This was a black eye for the Gator program, but we will take the deal of losing Jason.
Any surprise? Florida embarrassed our entire conference with their display. Throwing at an ex player 5 times in 3 games was bad enough without the fan behavior.
