Tennessee baseball catcher Cash Williams is entering the transfer portal after one season in Knoxville, a source confirmed to RTI on Tuesday.

Williams ranked as the No. 113 player in the 2025 recruiting class according to Prep Baseball Report. He also ranked as the No. 4 player and No. 1 catcher in the state of Oklahoma according to Perfect Game. But Williams redshirted during his freshman season and served as the bullpen catcher.

The Vols could return their top three catchers from last season with Stone Lawless entering his redshirt junior season and both Levi Clark and Trent Grindlinger not being eligible for the 2026 MLB Draft. If all three players return, Williams would have a very little path to playing time next season in Knoxville.

Tennessee also signed blue-chip prep catcher Sean Dunlap out of Crown Point High School in Indiana.

Williams is the eighth Tennessee player to enter the transfer portal this offseason, joining infielder Finley Bates, shortstop Ariel Antigua, infielder Ethan Moore, first baseman Evan Hankins, utility man Hunter High, utility man Chris Newstrom and right-handed pitcher Brayden Krenzel.

The Vols have yet to lose a starting player to the transfer portal though Krenzel was a major piece of Tennessee’s bullpen at times during the 2026 season.

After failing to make it out of the opening weekend of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2019, Josh Elander and his coaching staff enter a critical offseason. Tennessee will lose a number of players to the portal and will be aggressive adding more talent to its roster.
