This season, Tennessee football will welcome back former offensive coordinator and current Auburn head coach Alex Golesh to Neyland Stadium for a game. The Vols and Tigers meet in Knoxville on Oct. 3, 2026, marking the second SEC game of the year for UT.
For Auburn, Golesh brought his quarterback from USF with him for his first season as the head coach at Auburn. Byrum Brown put together an extremely successful career with the Bulls and projects to be one of the better quarterbacks in the SEC this season.
However, a video of him not looking too sharp is beginning to go viral. In a post from Theodore Fernandez, Brown was missing throws with receivers at the Elite 11 camp, where he was serving as a counselor. While it’s probably not worth overreacting about given the small sample size and context around the throws, some fans have taken the video and run with it.

Brown is entering his fifth season of college football next year after spending four years at USF. He was Golesh’s starter in all three of his seasons with the Bulls, but had to miss over half of the 2024 campaign with an injury. This will be his final year of eligibility.
According to 247, Brown was the No. 9 transfer quarterback this cycle. This is the second-highest ranking of transfers that landed inside the SEC, only behind top-ranked quarterback transfer Sam Leavitt, who landed at LSU.
When Auburn comes to town, it’ll feature more former Tennessee assistants than just Golesh, as well. Tim Banks, after being fired from his role as defensive coordinator under Josh Heupel, joins Golesh as a defensive assistant.
