Tennessee baseball reliever Nic Abraham plans on returning for his junior season, GoVols247’s Ben McKee first reported and a source confirmed to RTI.
Abraham posted a 4.15 ERA and 1.12 WHIP in 34.2 innings pitched during his sophomore season. The right-handed pitcher made three midweek starts and threw the bulk of his innings in midweek games. He posted a 7.59 ERA in 10.2 innings pitched in SEC play.
The California native made just five appearances in SEC play with a poor outing against LSU, five earned runs in 0.2 innings pitched, which inflated his conference only stats. Half his SEC innings came against Vanderbilt when he allowed four earned runs in 5.1 innings pitched.
Abraham turned in one appearance in the postseason, tossing 1.2 scoreless innings against Arkansas in the SEC Tournament.
More From RTI: Why Tuesday Was A Good Day For Tennessee Baseball
Abraham was one of just four returning pitchers for Tennessee from the 2025 to the 2026 season. With Tegan Kuhns and Brandon Arvidson likely off to professional baseball and Brayden Krenzel entering the transfer portal, Abraham will be the only pitcher on the Vols 2027 roster that was also on the 2025 team.
Ten Tennessee players have entered the transfer portal this offseason, including utility man Jay Abernathy, catcher Cash Williams, infielder Finley Bates, shortstop Ariel Antigua, infielder Ethan Moore, first baseman Evan Hankins, utility man Hunter High, utility man Chris Newstrom, outfielder Hutson Chance and right-handed pitcher Brayden Krenzel.
While the Vols have lost a number of players to the portal so far, they have yet to lose an abundance of pitchers. Key pitchers Landon Mack and Cam Appenzeller are also returning for the 2027 season and give Tennessee two potential weekend starters.
After failing to make it out of the opening weekend of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2019, Elander and his coaching staff enter a critical offseason. Tennessee will lose a number of players to the portal and will be aggressive adding more talent to its roster.
