Utility man Tyler Myatt is returning to Tennessee baseball for the 2027 season, Volquest’s Eric Cain first reported and Myatt confirmed to RTI on Monday night.
A Townsend, Tennessee native, Myatt transferred into the Vol baseball program last offseason after earning NJCAA Player of the Year honors in a dominant redshirt freshman season at local Walters State. Myatt chose the Vols over LSU and Texas A&M.
As it is for so many junior college hitters, the adjustment to the SEC was not a smooth one last season. Myatt started 17 games and hit .247 with three home runs, six doubles and 12 RBIs and fell out of the starting rotation by the midway point in SEC play.
Myatt did maintain a role on Tennessee’s team by performing well as a pinch hitter during his first season in Knoxville. His most notable pinch hit at-bat came when he hit a walk off home run against Kent State.
