Tennessee baseball transfer catcher Cash Williams committed to West Virginia baseball on Wednesday afternoon. Williams entered the portal the second day after it opened and committed to the Mountaineers eight days later.

Williams ranked as the No. 113 player in the 2025 recruiting class according to Prep Baseball Report. He also ranked as the No. 4 player and No. 1 catcher in the state of Oklahoma according to Perfect Game. But Williams redshirted during his freshman season and served as the bullpen catcher.

The Vols return three of their top four freshmen from last season. Stone Lawless, Levi Clark and Trent Grindlinger are all returning while Garrett Wright is likely bound for professional baseball. With three returning catchers, Williams would have a very little path to playing time next season in Knoxville.

Tennessee also signed blue-chip prep catcher Sean Dunlap out of Crown Point High School in Indiana in the 2026 recruiting cycle.

West Virginia clinched its first College World Series appearance in program history last weekend, sweeping its home super regional series against Cal Poly. The Mountaineers, who were the No. 16 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament, open up their Omaha run on Friday afternoon against Troy.
