This offseason, following Joey Aguilar’s failure to be granted a preliminary injunction for an additional year of eligibility, Tennessee football waded the transfer portal waters to see if any quarterbacks made sense. The two that the Vols notably brought onto campus for visits were Arizona State’s Sam Leavitt and Missouri’s Beau Pribula.
Ultimately, Leavitt picked LSU and Lane Kiffin, while Tennessee and Pribula decided it wasn’t going to be a match on Rocky Top. Afterward, Pribula took a trip to Virginia and committed to the ACC program to continue his career instead.
The job wasn’t handed to Pribula with the Hoos, though. Instead, he entered a quarterback battle, which the program just announced that Pribula has won. This comes just after he represented the school at ACC Football Kickoff.
“Expectations are high,” Pribula said at ACC Football Kickoff last week. “That’s just the way we want it. That’s the way the standard should be. Every time we take the field, the expectation should be to win. We need Wahoo Nation. We need Scott Stadium rocking this fall. I can’t wait to see what home atmosphere is like, especially week one, NC State, a big game for us. I can’t wait to see the fan base pop out.”

In his first and only season with Missouri, Pribula was the team’s starting quarterback. He appeared and started in 10 games, missing a pair due to injury. On the year, he produced 1,914 passing yards, 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He also ran for 297 yards and six scores.
Before heading playing for the Tigers, Pribula played at Penn State under James Franklin. Pribula was never the full-time starter for the Nittany Lions, but was able to total 424 passing yards, nine touchdowns, just one pick and 10 rushing scores from 2023-24. He was also on the team in 2022, but saw no action and earned a redshirt. This is now his final year of eligibility.
Ultimately, Tennessee landed Colorado transfer Ryan Staub to help fill out the quarterback room. Staub enters a three-man quarterback battle with second-year George MacIntyre and freshman Faizon Brandon. Staub is widely considered the least likely option of the trio to win the job, but he’ll get a fair look in fall camp.
