One of Tennessee football’s secondary targets is set to come off the board in the coming days.
Jowell Combay, a three-star safety out of Marietta, Georgia, will announce his commitment on July 9 at 5 p.m. ET. He is deciding between a top five of the Vols, Missouri, Wisconsin, Georgia and South Carolina.
Combay attends Kell High School, the same school that big-time Tennessee linebacker target Brayden Rouse is at. Combay is the No. 632 player in the class, according to 247’s composite rankings, while Rouse is at No. 86.

Currently, neither 247 nor Rivals/On3 has submitted predictions from experts for which school Combay will pick. Since May, Tennessee has led in On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine, though.
Combay visited the Vols for his official visit on June 20. This was his final visit of the summer, giving UT the final word before he makes his decision. He made the trip north to Knoxville at the same time as his teammate, Rouse, who continues to trend toward Tennessee.
The week prior, Combay took a look at Wisconsin. He visited South Carolina and Missouri just before that, as well. He did not take an official visit to Georgia, his other finalist.
Before his official look, he also got to town for the popular ‘865 Live’ event that Tennessee hosted in May. He made his way to campus in March, as well, after picking up his offer on February 10.
Tennessee has 17 commitments in the 2026 class at the moment. This is good for the No. 15 class in the country on 247. The Vols’ class is headlined by a pair of highly-touted five-star recruits. This includes 247’s top-ranked prospect, quarterback Faizon Brandon, and offensive tackle Gabriel Osenda.
Defensive backs in the boat so far include three-star cornerbacks Zaydyn Anderson and Jamyan Theodore and safeties KJ McClain and Luke Thompson.
