Florida is reportedly dealing with a minor injury to its most significant player ahead of spring camp.
According to Zach Abolverdi of On3 Sports, Florida quarterback DJ Lagway has been in a boot with a “minor lower leg injury” ahead of fall camp.
Abolverdi’s report states that the star Florida quarterback suffered a calf injury during a team run last week, prompting the move to a boot before fall camp begins.
The injury doesn’t appear to be serious, though we’ll find out more when Florida begins camp on Wednesday. Abolverdi says that “the injury is not thought to be serious,” and that the extent of how much time he misses during camp is still unclear.
This isn’t the first injury that Lagway has had to deal with this offseason. During spring training camp, the rising sophomore did not throw any passes as he recovered from a shoulder injury and lower body injury, according to On3 and Florida head coach Billy Napier. Reports suggest that the shoulder injury has healed up fine through the offseason.
Ultimately, this doesn’t do much in the case of the Tennessee-Florida game way down the road. The report indicates that, barring trouble with a new injury down the road, he’ll be orchestrating the Gators’ offense when Tennessee rolls into Gainesville in the penultimate game of the season.

Tennessee will take on Florida in Ben Hill Griffin Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 22. This is a stark difference from when the Vols and Gators normally battle during the regular season.
UT and UF have traditionally always played in either September or October, with only a few breaks from the norm. One of those was the COVID-shortened 2020 season, played in December, and the other most recent being a December showdown from Gainesville during the 2001 season. That matchup was originally supposed to take place in September but was moved to the back of the season due to the 9/11 tragedy just a few days before the game was scheduled.
The two rivals squaring off in late November is certainly a break from tradition and something that the rivalry hasn’t seen in quite some time.
Either way, Aborverdi’s report suggests that Lagway’s lower body injury is a minor obstacle to hurdle before the Gators’ season kicks off. We’ll see how things unfold when the SEC begins fall camp this week.
