Four-star wing Gage Mayfield released his top five including Tennessee basketball Tuesday afternoon. The Vols joined Florida State, Michigan, Oklahoma and Vanderbilt in Mayfield’s top group.
Mayfield officially visited Tennessee in June for his first of five scheduled visits. The blue-chip wing has scheduled visits with the four other schools in his top group for over the next two months with Florida State getting the next visit and Michigan getting the last visit.
Mayfield ranks as a four-star recruit and the No. 68 player in the country according to the 247sports composite rankings. The 6-foot-7, 190-pound wing ranks as the top prospect in the state of Alabama and the No. 28 small forward nationally in the 2026 recruiting cycle.

A standout at Hale County High School, Mayfield helped lead the Wildcats to an 18-7 record in his junior season. Since the end of his junior season Mayfield has begun turning head on the AAU circuit leading to Tennessee setting up a visit with the 6-foot-7, 190-pound wing. In just the last few months, Mayfield has earned offer from Auburn, Alabama, LSU, Maryland, Miami and Florida State.
Tennessee does not hold a commitment in the 2026 recruiting cycle but it’s board is beginning to come into place. Four-star point guard Miles Sadler is officially visiting Tennessee in late August while five-star point guard Deron Rippey Jr and four-star wing Bryson Howard are officially visiting Tennessee in October.
The Vols also hosted four-star wing Gage Mayfield, four-star shooting guard Junior County and three-star point guard Sam “Deuce” Simmons Jr on visits over the summer. County excluded Tennessee from his top five Monday while Simmons is further down Tennessee’s board at the moment.
Rick Barnes and his staff also have interest in LaTrell Almond, Emmanuel Green and other blue-chip prospects but we’ll see if they get them on campus and become serious players in their recruitments.
