Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin is never afraid to troll Tennessee fans online. Whether it’s celebrating Ole Miss wins over Tennessee in any sport or taking subtle jabs at the football program, Kiffin rarely misses an opportunity to jest at the Vols’ expense.

But Kiffin was joining in on some Tennessee fun after the Vols knocked off Mississippi State 41-34 in overtime at Davis Wade Stadium Saturday afternoon.

The popular “Everything Ole Miss” X account posted a photo of Tennessee players celebrating in the end zone with the backdrop full of fans in orange. A Tennessee fan account responded to the post with four additional photos that prevalently showed Tennessee fans at the game and Kiffin reposted it on his personal account.

Tennessee fans largely took over Davis Wade Stadium in the Vols’ overtime win. Mississippi State was doing a white out which made it particularly look like a pro Tennessee crowd because of the orange and white mixed together behind the Vols’ sideline.

Mississippi State did as good of a job as I’ve ever seen from a home team drowning out the crowd noise of away fans. During the game, fans loudly rung Cowbells whenever Tennessee fans were cheering. Then after the game, the Bulldogs played music extremely loudly over the PA system, helping drown out Rocky Top and Tennessee fans celebrations.

It was an electric conference matchup that included six lead changes and three ties and eventually went into overtime after a late fourth quarter Tennessee touchdown tied the game. But the Vols found a way to get the job done in overtime, scoring on the opening play of the period before turning the Bulldogs over on downs at the four-yard line.

Of course, Ole Miss and Mississippi State are fierce rivals which leads to Kiffin taking a jab at the Bulldogs. The Egg Bowl is not only one of the fiercest rivalries in the SEC but in the entire country. Ole Miss is 4-1 in the Egg Bowl in Kiffin’s first five years as head coach with the lone loss coming in the 2022 season shortly before the passing of Mike Leach.

Tennessee’s win over Mississippi State was only a small part of Ole Miss’ strong Saturday. The Rebels knocked off LSU in the Magnolia Bowl earlier in the afternoon to improve to 5-0 (3-0 SEC) on the season before skyrocketing to No. 4 in the latest AP Poll.
