Tennessee basketball is back in the win column with a strong 95-56 victory over Northern Kentucky on Saturday afternoon. This moves the Vols to 2-0 on the season after defeating Mercer in the season-opener earlier this week.
To help UT to a comfortable win were a trio of stars. Five-star freshman Nate Ament led the way with a 23-point night on 6-for-12 shooting and a pair of made 3-pointers. Behind him, Ja’Kobi Gillespie also got to 20 points on a quartet of shots from range. JP Estrella was the final Vol in double figures at 17. He also came down with 11 rebounds to mark his first career double-double.
After the game, Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes and players Ament and Gillespie met with the media to give their thoughts on what transpired.
Next, the Vols will be back in Food City Center on Wednesday to meet North Florida, the school VFL Chaz Lanier starred at before transferring to Tennessee ahead of last season. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET and airs on SECN+. Then, it’s Rice and Tennessee State at home before the Vols head to the Players Era Men’s Championship in Vegas.
